If the case to be made is that of not being a bad person, perhaps it is made in lieu of a lesser case in being a good person.

Always the Right Time
If one must suffer for the other, let good judgement give way to good character. db

1-2-3
Two hand shakes and a brief hug.
This was my human contact today.
I mention it because it exceeded most days, going as far back as... I don't know, a decade or so(?)

Tired and Retired
You may walk or You may crawl
You may stumble , You may fall
You may succeed where other's failed
You may live to tell the tale
Yes...
You may skip through fields of flowers
You may wade waist high in shit
You may go on to do great things
But nothing if you quit.

Eso Si Que Es
I am middle class.
I am male.
I am white.
I am heterosexual.
I am a Christian.
I have had no choice in most of this, but these things are how I will be seen by many who are none of these things.
For many I am the appearance of every oppressor past and I am the perception of the oppressors present.
In a world of fear that would rather follow the easier path of embracing the collective stereo-type and a mob mentality, rather than work for individual freedoms and intelligent thinking, I represent the collective enemies past and present.
All may be found in me for anyone that views things that way.
But if you knew me at all you would know that I am not any of them, in any sense.
Not that it matters to anyone that it should.
What I may have to say is apparently invalidated by my appearance and circumstance.
So the oppressed are becoming the oppressors.
Tolerance, acceptance, equality, they are no longer the end, they are now the means.
I can see a day on the horizon that equality will not be recognized as satisfactory without the inclusion of retribution and revenge.
I will probably be gone by then, but God help everyone when that pendulum fully swings, for it will cut deeper than anyone can imagine.
Unlike You
To "like" suggests we are motivated by our feelings and that much is easy. To love demands action regardless and in spite of our feelings. That can be difficult indeed.
The commandment is always LOVE never is it LIKE.
I could expound for days, but I will simply leave you to consider the implications in these:
Matthew 22: 36-40 36“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37And he said to him, “You shall LIKE the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38This is the great and first commandment. 39And a second is like it: You shall LIKE your neighbor as yourself. 40On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
John 3:16 For God so LIKED the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life
Think about it.
We aren't always likeable, we are always loveable.
Hang In There, It Gets Worse
I've heard the expression, "It's never to late start over." That's a load of horse crap, because sometimes, for somethings, it really is too late to start over.
About the only thing it's never too late for is to screw things up. So trust me kids, you can relax & take your time about it. No one will ever tell you that you've missed out on your chance to really bungle things. You'll always have your whole life to do it and then every moment after that to try and fix it again.
Someone Always Pays
The best things in life aren't free, but they are well worth the cost. The greater the treasure the greater the depth it is likely to be buried. (Inspired by the scent of clothes hung out to dry instead using the drier... no dryer sheet can compare.)
Truth vs Perception
Being sure of one's self is very different than being full of one's self. It's often easier to distinguish between the two from the outside than it is from the inside.

Futility
Some things in life are like trying to dig a tunnel... at the beach... while the tide comes in... with a slurpee straw...
Starving at the Banquet Table
"Today, we are drowning in data and starved for information." - Eric D Brown
"Information is free, knowledge is not." - Ian Lurie
"We are drowning in information but starved for knowledge." - John Naisbitt
“We are drowning in information, while starving for wisdom.” E.O. Wilson
"To attain knowledge, add things everyday. To attain wisdom, remove things every day." - Lao Tzu
"Everybody knows what's going on in the world. I don't even know what's going on with myself." - Matt Johnson
"There is much that I do not know and I'd like to know even less." - Martin Schuster
"I am the wisest man alive, for I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing." - Socrates
And at the end of the day, they settled it at Fight Club.... everyone won... kind of.
He Who Hesitates is Lost
Don't forget the feeling of comfort from the kind and unexpected gestures you have received, lest you fail in making them yourself by hesitating until the moment has passed.

Of Mountains and Mole Hills
I've told my wife and daughters (who probably still don't believe me) that no matter the age, if there are boobs, they will usually become (consciously or not, spoken or not) the foremost and overshadowing focus mentally for guys.
I've also used the song "Get Lucky" to explain the problems with male / female "friendships"...
As I tell them," you can believe I'm right or you can learn that I am... but I'm right."
Seek Ye First
We hate that which could heal us and cling to that which would kill us... everyone who seeks will find, but just what is it that we truly seek?
Small Paul
Sometimes people think they're just being funny and clever when they're really just being fucked up and cruel.
I know because I've been that guy.
Not being that guy comes more from being on the receiving vs. the giving end rather than some inherent thoughtfulness or compassion.
Game of Thrones
The kids have their own, but they're always in mine... Game of Thrones. I don't need to watch it, I live it.
